Dream For Tomorrow, Today!

We are in a crisis today with COVID-19 and it will be a mark in history. We will never be the same. Companies, healthcare systems, governments, legal systems, educational institutions – everything will change, and so must we. We will need to adjust, adapt, transition, transform and redefine ourselves. Those who begin now for tomorrow will be the pioneers, the leaders, the innovators, the trailblazers in their work and industries.

How do you do this? DREAM 1. Decide 2. Resilient 3. Educate 4. Act 5. Manage.

As a young child bounced around the broken, foster care system, I learned quickly to face adversity and to turn it into possibility.  As I look back, I see that much of my success was the direct result of my ability to DREAM. It is my hope that this little article will encourage and inspire you to DREAM and to dream big.

Decide today that you will be Resilient and Educate yourself, then take appropriate Action to successfully Manage your life and your career.

1.     Decide: You can decide to be a victim because of any number of negative impacts of this crisis – job loss, financial ruin, health issues, broken relationships, etc. or you can decide to be a victor in spite of them. You determine your mental attitude and you control your emotional reaction.

2.     Resilient: A resilient person is defined as one who can “recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change.” Merriam-Webster Dictionary. Ask yourself, where does my strength come from and then tap into it. This may be spiritual, professional counseling, meditation, exercise, relationships, etc.

3.     Educate: Paralyzing fear often comes from lack of education. Educate yourself. Do the research, collect the data, evaluate your sources and you will be empowered to control your emotions and make informed decisions.

4.     Action: Take action that will position yourself for success. After careful consideration and evaluation, don’t be afraid to mobilize yourself – take or decline the promotion, the new job, the move, the end or beginning of a relationship. You determine your future by the actions you take today.

5.     Manage: Tomorrow you will manage what you have chosen today. You will either manage being a victim, who is defeated, uneducated and paralyzed or you can choose to live a bright tomorrow because you decided today to be resilient, to educate yourself and to take action so that you can manage a life and a career full of hope and success.
